The Blue Rock Trail, Forest of Dean

River habitat conservation project

Natural, local stone for ecological project

We supplied range of mixed colour Forest Pennant blocks, feature stones, rockery stone and graded stone to the contractor, Derek W Hancox, who was working with Severn Rivers Trust to deliver this conservation scheme. The project involved the installation of various natural stone structures to create a more natural watercourse enabling the development of the river habitat and ecology.

This is a multi-year project, funded by Severn Trent, is tackling the ecological impacts of low flows on the Cinderford Brook by increasing aquatic habitat diversity, improving connectivity and holding back more water in the landscape to reduce drought periods. It was important to use natural solutions to hold water back and reduce dangerous effects from drought periods - Forest Pennant Sandstone was the local, natural choice for the chosen material.
