Landscaping: Courtyard Garden

Paving and setts from Forest of Dean Stone Firms have been used to create a smart and contemporary courtyard garden for a private residence in the historic town of Monmouth. The Forest of Dean Pennant sandstone paving and sawn and flame textured setts were specified by local garden designer, Lisa Cox.

The sandstone was selected due to its provenance and location. The client wanted to source the materials as locally as possible and spent time researching quarries in the area.

“The Pennant sandstone offered what we needed. It was light in colour and available in a sawn finish. As parts of the garden are in shade for much of the day, we wanted a stone that would clean easily and be safe i.e. not slippery. I also wanted to bring in some detail using the setts,” says garden designer, Lisa Cox.

The client went to look at the Pennant sandstone in-situ at a couple of sites. Samples were also supplied and considered in context.
